But here's the thing: I've been able to spend almost 15 hours a week on my manuscript for the past month. Given the ages of my children and the current size of my tutoring client base, that's kind of miraculous. And the work has been every bit as joyful as I remembered.
The best way to hold onto that much writing time in my week is to set up real external deadlines. I love a good deadline. This post about assigning a stick-figure comic adaptation of a Lloyd Alexander novel to one of my students, is the first gift my new regular deadline has given me. I can't wait to find out what I write for next Wednesday.
